Law Reform Commission Interim Report – 17th May 2010
The Law Reform Commission has published it’s interim report on personal debt.
Debt Plan Ireland attended the press conference in the LRC offices where Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern officially launched the report. We are pleased at the announcement that regulation of the debt management sector is to be implemented and that lenders and creditors will be encouraged to accept the holistic approach to debt resolution that debt management plans provide.

“Halifax offers deal to credit card debt” - Irish Independent April 20th 2010
Following Debt Plan Ireland’s discovery in March that customers of Halifax with credit card arrears could face debt collection agencies, Charles Weston reports that a new deal applies to those who cannot clear the card debt by other means. Unfortunately, anyone with more than one month arrears may still face contact from debt collectors!

“Six-month delay to be put on mortgage arrears legal actions” By Anne-Marie Walsh Industry Correspondent.
Anne-Marie Walsh reports on a new Government draft proposal to enforce a six-month delay before mortgage lenders can take legal action against homeowners in arrears, which stipulates that “the troubled mortgage holder would have to show they were making sufficient attempts to keep up their repayments and engaging with the lender, money advice bureau or other advisory services”.
